I was rear ended about a month ago on my way home from work. Some little Saturn wasn’t paying attention and nailed my bumper. His front was jacked up, but my rear bumper just had a little dent. It still needed to be repaired, so I had to take it into the body shop. [Side Note: I had to get a rental car for the week my car was there, so I really wanted to get a Dodge Charger, but they didn’t have any. So, I got the next best thing, a Chrysler 300C, with the HEMI engine. It was totally awesome.] Anyways, I went to pick up my truck a week later, and to my great suprise, they charged me my deductible, $1000! I was sure there was something wrong, after all, it had been 2 weeks since I filed my claim, so they surely should have found the other guy at fault and waive my deductible. No such luck. I had to dish out a grand to get my truck back.
So I’m pissed. I called my worthless claims adjuster, and he gave me some spiel about how he couldn’t get a hold of the other insurance company, and it would have to go through “subrogation” and that it could take up to 3 months to get my money back. Horse crap. The day before this, I had filed my own claim with this dude’s insurance company (to get reimbursed for my rental). The SAME day, an adjuster calls me back, says his driver is at fault, and all I had to do was fax my rental invoice over, and they’d cut me a check. Same freakin day!
So now I’m really pissed. It’s now 4 weeks after the accident, and I still haven’t even heard back from my adjuster. I call him Thursday, no return call. I call him Friday, no return call. I call him again today, doesn’t pick up, so his voice mail say, “if I’m not doing a satisfactory job, you can talk to my supervisor, blah, blah, blah.” So I get his supervisor on the phone, tell her this chump is giving me the run-around, not returning my calls, and really pissing me off. So she looks at my file, gives me the same “subrogation” line, could take up to 3 months, etc.
Now I’m livid. I explain to her that I talked to the other dude’s insurance, and they already assesed blame, and they were cutting me a check. So finally she just says, “Ok, we’ll get a check out to you.” After all that, she has the power to go around “subrogation” and give me my money. What a pain.
I guess I got a little bit of revenge. When I was talking to the supervisor, I told her what a horrible job my claims adjuster was doing, so she made a note of it. About two hours later, the adjuster calls me up (from the calls I left the previous week) and asks how he can help me. I told him everything was fine now, and my check was on the way. So he pulls up my claim, just to double check, and he reads all the comments I left with the supervisor. I think I actually heard his heart break over the phone as he was reading them. He tried to give me some half-assed excuse about how busy he was, but it was too little too late. Thanks for nothing.
